St. Moritz and the Bernina Express from Milan

Who This Trip Suits
A 12.5-hour day from Milan’s Piazza della Repubblica to St. Moritz and back from Tirano, with the Bernina Express in between and a panoramic-car seat guaranteed if you choose that option. Run by Frigerio Viaggi, rated 4.5 from 4,003 reviews.
The coach takes about three hours to St. Moritz, where you have free time by the lake. In the afternoon you board the Bernina Express for Tirano, past the Morteratsch glacier, the Montebello curve, Lago Bianco and Alp Grüm, then the coach drives you back to Milan. A lunch-at-Diavolezza option replaces the St. Moritz free time. Seats in the panoramic car are guaranteed but not assigned, and a first-class upgrade is on request only.
It suits anyone set on the glass-roofed train rather than the regional red train most Milan tours use, from $155 per person (checked October 2026). It is not for people with heart problems, motion sickness or reduced mobility. From late October to late February the afternoon train meets early sunsets, so the last part of the ride can be in fading light. The Bernina Express from Milan page compares it with the other day trips.

That said, the scenery and the train journey are extraordinary in every season.
- Comfortable walking shoes recommended. Weather in the Alps can change quickly — bring a light layer.
